Wouldn't You Like To Be Popular? An Ode to Amanda Peterson

News of Amanda Peterson's death hit me like a slap across the face yesterday.  She left Hollywood in 1994 and moved back to Colorado, where she was from.  But, didn't you hope that she'd come back?  Fans of this movie, I KNOW that you did.

I remember seeing this movie in the summer of '87, before 7th grade.  I LOVED the style (although not necessarily preppy), and I was convinced that I could be popular too.  Furthermore, her character, Cindy Mancini, convinced me that there were beautiful, nice popular people, and that there may be a chance that I could be accepted by them.  I tried sitting with the popular kids, and although I didn't get exiled, I didn't get accepted either.  It may have been due to my mullet with surfer's hairspray wave, which were decidedly not pretty or cool.

Last night, I literally had a dream that her family auctioned off some of her clothes from the movie in their yard.
Here are some of my fave outfits/looks:

Back to school and all business.  My back to school outfit in '87: a Billabong tshirt and black knee length skirt.  With the mullet.

The breakup outfit: I wanted this outfit so badly, it wasn't even funny.

The bathroom confrontation outfit/detention. Love the hair.  And cutoff top.
And the Forenza cutoff.  Wish I still had some of my Forenza stuff.

So many gems.  White leather fringe cutoff outfit.  Oxford over mismatched bikini (with eye roll). Lady neck tie.  And fave outfit.

A bevy of fabulousness.

But, seriously:

Cindy Mancini died alone?  This truly saddens me.

RIP, Amanda Peterson.  Gone but not forgotten, by me or anyone else who grew up in the 80's.
