Newport - Gooseberry beach, polo and lobsterbake

It was an absolutely perfect summer Saturday, so I headed out for a day trip with some of my fellow Newport loving  girlfriends.  I love the old glamour of Newport, and those who hang onto preppiness (as opposed to the Newport with greasy bodies and slutty clothes).

Newport also holds a place in my heart because I found my core group of friends through a share house about 8 (!) years ago.

First stop:  Gooseberry Beach

My first time at this beach, and I loved it.  There are restrooms and a snack snack, and the beach is super clean and intimate.  What I love even more is that there is NO SMOKING allowed on the beach.  I HATE smoking, and nothing ruins a beautiful beach day like the smell of secondhand smoke or even worse, a nasty cigar.

MAJOR vacation home envy- this overlooked the beach.

Second stop: Stella Maris House- the guest house that my friends were staying at.

Nice view

 The water was actually sparkling!

Getting ready with your girlfriends to go out never gets old!

Third stop: Newport International Polo grounds!

Bar in the car - needed.

After an infernally long line, we made it to the polo match to meet up with our friends, who got a great spot.

Then it was time to observe the match, and, the fashions!  What I had been waiting for!!

Part of my crew!  I'm on the end with the stripes!

Note the crab booties on this young one!

I was torn about attending the race, as I have never been, and I am strongly opposed to horses being used in sports where they get injured and have to be put down.  I went to one race in Saratoga one time, and I saw this happen, and I will never go back.

Luckily, no injuries this time, and no tears for hours afterward!

No, he's not drinking a beer.  But he already has a preppy attitude in his lobby shirt.

Gasp!  Look at this octopus phone cover.  Must check that site out...

One of my favorite outfits of the day.

And then, big event number two, the Lobsterbake!  They did it above ground on top of seaweed.  They explained why, but I was distracted by the most amazing smell of the lobsters cooking on the seaweed, and I don't remember the chef's explanation.

Viola!  Is your mouth watering?  Well, you should have tasted it!!

We sat down at white cloth covered tables, watched the sunset and then dug in.

The night ended with fireworks, which was a surprise- especially to the dogs that were on site- one of whom bolted- hope he was okay!

Dessert of champions: watermelon.  Perfect as that was all that I had room for!
What an awesome day!
